## Best for

Passive linear support in ultra-high-vacuum mechanisms where motion is provided elsewhere in the assembly.

Choose the VSM23-P to provide additional support for high moment loads or as the passive element in a kinematic adjustment system.

Standard travels are 100 to 450 mm, with a published load capacity of up to 20 kg and vacuum compatibility down to 1 × 10⁻¹⁰ mbar.

## Not suitable when

The VSM23-P is not an independently driven positioning axis. Choose the VSM23-X when motorised linear motion is required.

Do not assign motor-step resolution, commanded speed or powered holding capability to this passive stage.

Applications exceeding its published load rating, or involving uncertain load sharing or substantial off-centre forces, require assessment by AML.

## Selection guidance

Choose the VSM23-P when the mechanism needs a supporting guide rather than another motorised axis.

Match its travel and mounting arrangement to the driven mechanism. Ask AML to assess how the complete assembly distributes forces and moments between its supports.

Choose standard aluminium construction for bakeout to 150 °C, or option SS for stainless steel construction and bakeout to 200 °C.

## Compatibility and prerequisites

The VSM23-P requires an external mechanism or driven axis to produce the intended movement. The passive stage itself does not require a stepper motor drive.

Confirm alignment, mounting interfaces, available travel and load sharing before integrating it with another stage.

Specify the mechanical arrangement rather than assuming that adding a passive stage automatically provides a particular combined load capacity.

## Ordering guidance

Standard order codes use VSM23-P followed by the travel in millimetres.

Available standard travels: 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400 and 450 mm.

Specify option SS when stainless steel construction is required.

Provide quantity, travel, details of the driven mechanism, payload, load offset, mounting arrangement and bakeout temperature. Include an assembly drawing where the stage will support a shared or offset load.
