## Best for

High-load ultra-high-vacuum rotation where structural rigidity, supported load and available torque are the main selection priorities.

The VSM24-R has a 250 kg centred normal-load capacity and is designed for applications involving high loads and cantilever arrangements.

It provides 0.005° resolution per step, with maximum torque published as up to 15 Nm.

Choose the VSM24-R when the load or rigidity requirements exceed those suited to the VSM17 rotation stages.

The standard configuration provides continuous 360° rotation and is suitable for vacuum environments down to 1 × 10⁻¹⁰ mbar.

## Not suitable when

Do not interpret the 250 kg centred normal-load capacity as permission to apply the same mass at any offset or in any orientation. Cantilever loads and overturning moments require assessment.

Do not select the anti-backlash spring or limit-switch configuration when unrestricted multi-revolution rotation is required. These options limit travel to 0–360°.

The published maximum speed of up to 5 rpm is an unloaded rating, not a guaranteed speed at maximum payload.

The standard stage is bakeable to 150 °C. Applications requiring higher bakeout temperatures need review by AML.

## Selection guidance

Choose the standard VSM24-R when continuous multi-revolution rotation is required and its published 0.15° backlash is acceptable.

Specify the optional anti-backlash spring when backlash below 0.005° is required and a restricted 0–360° travel range is acceptable.

Choose optional limit switches when end-of-travel references and homing are required. Confirm their effect on the permitted rotation range.

Compare the VSM17-R-72K when a lower-load stage can meet the application. Compare the VSM17-R-3K6 when faster rotation is more important than fine angular increments or high output torque.

Select against load moments, torque, speed and positioning requirements together.

## Compatibility and prerequisites

The VSM24-R incorporates a D-sub connector in the stage body. Specify the mating in-vacuum cable, feedthrough and airside connections for the ordered configuration.

Use a compatible stepper motor drive, such as the AML SMD4, with appropriate motor temperature protection.

Limit switches and incremental or absolute encoders are optional; do not assume they are included in the standard stage.

Confirm the supporting structure, mounting interface and complete moving-load arrangement. Verify the temperature limits and signal interfaces of any fitted encoder or other options.

Provide quantity, mounting orientation, payload including fixtures, centre-of-gravity position, cantilever dimensions, required torque, speed, acceleration, duty cycle and positioning requirements.

Include an assembly drawing for significant offset loads. Confirm bakeout temperature, mounting accessories and the complete electrical connection arrangement before ordering.

Ultra high vacuum compatible rotation stage designed for high load applications. Featuring high specification bearings and a rigid bearing arrangement, the VSM24-R is ideal for applications requiring high load capacity and cantilever loads.

An integrated D-sub connector is designed into the body of the stage for ease of connectivity.
